What Is So Good About Lavender

Author : Marco Gonzaga
More than just a sight for sore eyes, lavender has been used extensively in herbalism since ancient times. It acts as a natural antidepressant and possesses a host of other healing properties that are anti-convulsive, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal. These healing components of lavender are known to be accumulated mostly in its blossoms, whether fresh or dried. Its oil has been proven very effective and useful both internally and externally. If it were to be ingested, one up to three drops of it on a sugar cube is normally used. However, extracting its oil without equipment and the proper knowledge of the distillation process of essential oil is not advisable. Thus, it would be best if you would just buy it from a reputable store. But be warned: purchased lavender oil can cause nausea. Majority of sellers would advise you to limit its use to very small doses if you were to ingest it.
Taken internally, lavender can address a variety of health problems such as exhaustion, vexation, migraines, other headaches, stress-related issues, anxiety, colds, digestive problems, etc. Teas using the lavender blooms are known to have calming and refreshing effects. Thus, it is considered as one of the most beneficial health teas. Truly, lavender can benefit us in more ways than one. Here are some of the other ways we can use this beautiful blossom:
The very pleasant scent of lavender oil is prevalently used in aromatherapy for its soothing properties. To relieve stress, try dabbing some of it on your temples.
Drop a handful of lavender blossoms in boiling water. Let steep and voila! You now have refresing lavender tea. Because it can calm our nerves, lavender tea is known to be equally efficacious in addressing sleep problems as chamomile tea.
Lavender oil can also be used externally as a topical oil. Apply it on irritated, chafed, or burned skin for instant relief.
If you have dandruff and you have tried all sorts of dandruff shampoo to no avail, opt for lavender oil. Follow the same procedure in making lavender tea. After allowing it to steep, let it cool for a few minutes. You can use this for rinsing your hair every day until your dandruff has cleared up.
Because lavender has antiseptic components, it can be used in place of rubbing alcohol for cuts and scrapes.
Lavender can promote sleep and a better one at that. Use fresh flowers and tie them up in a small pillow case or satchel. Keep them nearby where you can inhale their relaxing fragrance.
To help you relax and ease those tired muscles, put a few drops of lavender oil or some of its blossoms into your hot bath. Soak and enjoy the wondrous benefits.
As a natural antidepressant to help ease the symptoms of depression, try inhaling the the fragrant steam of water with lavender oil. To make it, put two drops of lavender oil in two cups of hot water.
Aside from addressing the symptoms of depression, the previously mentioned steam can also work on relieving headache pain.
Rubbing or massaging a few drops of lavender oil on your temples can help ease your headache pain or migraine.
